We all need someone to believe in us. I believe in you.

The Inquisitive Leader community is inspired by the conversations I have had with many bright, enthusiastic, talented, diverse professionals. Every month, I try to meet with at least four new professionals to hear their personal stories, discuss the work they are doing, learn about their lived experiences in the workplace, and talk about the next steps in their professional journey.

There are many topics that have emerged from these conversations, for example, navigating the dynamics of a workplace, professional growth, career management, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, managing, leading, recruitment, hiring, and retention. One theme that runs through virtually every conversation is gratitude for having a space to be heard, where questions can be asked, and experiences can be shared around solution building.

My vision is to provide a welcoming space where professionals like you, give yourself permission to learn, grow, and be vulnerable while exploring topics on various strategies for success in the workplace.

My career has been and continues to be dedicated to mission driven causes, talent development, and organizational management

Over the course of my lifetime, I have been influenced and inspired by many teachers and professors from primary school through law school. In the past twenty-seven years, I have worked as a fundraiser and leader for both public and private institutions of higher education to further the advancement of medical research, faculty, physicians, scholars, and students. I have personally raised over $100M in private philanthropy and for the greater part of my 27+ year career have managed and led large scale organizational teams.

At the age of twelve, I entered the workforce as a babysitter for neighbors. I mention this because the totality of my life experience has provided me with lessons that extend beyond my resume. Some of the stories and observations that I make are drawn from my work in a children’s library, Kmart, a basic science lab, the Indiana State legislature, governmental agencies, a home healthcare company, a children’s photography studio, and a temporary agency.

My racial and ethnic identity are defining features of who I am and how I experience the world. I am biracial. My parents grew up over 3,500 miles apart. One on the continent of Africa and the other on the continent of Europe. They fell in love in 1963 and married in 1966 and I entered this world in 1968. I am an immigrant to the United States and consider myself tricultural. My parents sacrificed a great deal to lay a foundation for me to have a chance at being successful. They were very intentional in bringing me up, instilling a strong work ethic, compassion for others, and a conscience for being a citizen of the world.

"We are the sum of our parts. One thing that runs through the timeline of my life is curiosity around human behavior, an unrelenting passion for people, a love of learning, and a desire to create a space where everyone is welcome and feels at home. The Inquisitive Leader community is one of these spaces."
